Job Description

The Health Products Stewardship Association (HPSA) is a not-for-profit organization formed by producers of consumer health products (CHP) in Canada to fulfill their stewardship obligations in provinces with regulations that require them to ensure the safe and effective collection and disposal of unused and expired consumer health products. What’s more, HPSA also serves as a national industry liaison with governments and other stewardship programs and acts as members’ representative to help raise awareness on proper disposal issues. Currently representing 165 companies and operating in the following four provinces: British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario and Prince Edward Island, HPSA is looking to broaden its reach across the country with the help of a new and dynamic Director General.

The new Director General (DG) will help solidify HPSA’s presence nation-wide while ensuring the efficient and effective management of the Association. Reporting to the Board of Directors and more specifically, the new DG will oversee the development and implementation of HPSA’s programs and marketing strategy, establish and maintain contacts with key players in government and related professional associations, provide continuity and policy guidance to the Board, continuously monitor public policy and political forums regarding the impact of new and changing key policies affecting Health products , and increase HPSA’s public profile. He or she will build networks of influence to ensure HPSA is seen as an important player in the healthcare and environmental stewardship dialogue on matters related to new or changes in policies for take-back programs (medication, needles and sharps) in Canada, while collaborating and demonstrating tangible value to its members and stakeholders.

Qualifications

As the ideal candidate, you are a seasoned professional with a minimum of 5 years’ executive-level experience in either an environmentally/health focused or member-based organisation. Recognized as a credible and action-oriented leader with outstanding communication skills, you have a reputation for executing effective government relations strategies and supporting advocacy efforts across an organization. A forward-thinking leader and strong relationship-builder, you possess a high level of diplomacy, tact and judgment to complement a sound understanding of regulatory frameworks and government policy making processes, structures and current priorities. Your credibility is supported by your strong financial acumen and engaging leadership style. You lead by example to set the tone and culture of the organization and set key strategic objectives in conjunction with the Board and other stakeholders. Fluency in both official languages is considered an asset.
