Job Description

The Training Specialist is a member of the Customer Experience Team in Animal Health and will drive and govern the capabilities of employee training/development across Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health Canada Inc. in a strategic and sustainable manner, considering the overarching Animal Health Business Unit strategy.  The Training Specialist will:

- Design, lead, identify and implement training excellence end-to-end processes within Canada (selling & coaching skills for customer facing functions, customer segmentation & targeting and strategic account management)

- Manage all Animal Health specific learning and onboarding programs

- Governance of roles, responsibilities and required resources

- Lead, identify and strategically deploy overarching adult learning principles around training initiatives of all Animal Health employees.

- Lead the local implementation of the global & regional training initiatives

- Lead, identify and implement Strategic Account Management processes within Canada

- Lead the Strategic Account Management customer team business planning process for selected customers

- Managing local sales excellence, Strategic Account Management and coaching performance framework

- Measurement of customer experience and effectiveness through KPI’s via internal and third party data

- Data guidelines and standards

- Strategically create and deploy training related change management and communication within the local commercial organizations incl. leadership teams, marketing, sales & technical teams

This position will serve as a local partner responsible for the development & execution of sales force effectiveness, Strategic Account Management and learning strategies, tools, operational framework and processes to support BI business objectives.

 This role leads key initiatives, critical projects & continuous improvement activities and it is responsible for the quality and effectiveness of BI sales force, marketing and management teams through leading the continuous improvement of a high performing organization.

This role coaches, develops and inspires the local teams to help grow the capabilities of our colleagues in service of delivering our product portfolio and company strategy. The vision of this role is to implement and oversee best-in-class skills and capabilities to our employees.



Drive implementation of training and development capability standards (including but not limited to Sales Force Effectiveness, Strategic Account Management, Coaching For Excellence) for customer strategy and engagement development in Canada and in collaboration with global program office.

Decide on long-term objectives within Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health Canada Inc. for training capability assessments and translate into specific short and mid-term milestones for all training processes

 Establish, govern and share a training performance framework incl. review cycles with local, regional & global leadership teams, with the objective of harmonizing the employee development related capabilities and their performance measurement incl. KPIs in Canada.

Drive communication and gain local adoption on the roles and responsibilities related to the training and employee development process through setting a blueprint design within a country specific roadmap for the capability

Establish, communicate & monitor execution and adoption (pull through) of training programs.

Process Excellence and continuous improvement: Identify and decide on process, platform and data improvement potentials and share leading practices that can be scaled among teams within Canada and globally.



Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree (preferred)

5+ years’ experience in a pharmaceutical customer facing role.

2+ experience in dealing with Veterinarians and working in the animal health environment is ideal.

Demonstrated strengths in the following Coaching for Excellence (CFE) competencies: Product Knowledge, Customer Engagement / Selling Skills, and Working Relationships & Teamwork.  

Very strong abilities in the following areas: coaching/training/development, leadership, verbal and written communication, negotiation skills, analytical and decision making skills, organization/planning and time management, change management, presentation and facilitation skills to small and large groups.
