Animal Health Companies are Essential Businesses
On April 2, 2020 the Public Safety Canada, on behalf of the Canadian Government, published its Guidance on Essential Services and Functions in Canada during the COVID-19 Pandemic. This guidance was developed in consultation with Canadian provinces, territories and national unions and recognizes the health and welfare of animals as essential.
CAHI's member businesses are not impacted by these closures as they are essential for animal health and welfare.
These essential services are consistent with those already identified by the provinces of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and Prince Edward Island.
"The federal and provincial governments are to be lauded for their recognition of the importance of the Canadian animal health sector in safeguarding not only the food supply, but also the broader health and wellbeing of Canadians, particularly during this unprecedented and very difficult period." says CAHI President and CEO, Dr. Catherine Filejski.

Other COVID-19 Resources
The lists of essential businesses in the face of COVID-19 broadly include the veterinary, animal health and agricultural sectors, as well as the supply chains, research facilities and distribution channels supporting these sectors. Most of CAHI’s member companies fall within the scope of designated “essential workplaces”.
