About CAHI

Our Committees

In 2023, CAHI relaunched our committees to best meet the needs of our members.

Our committees each have one CAHI staff member to serve as administrator, and each committee is composed of individuals from our member companies that are best able to meet the committee’s mandate.

Please continue reading for the roles and responsibilities of each of our CAHI Committees.

Within each Committee, there are also opportunities to participate in “sub committees” or working group, when a specific topic requires more attention. Some examples of sub-committee or working group topics include:

PFAS regulations
Pharmacovigilance
21 day withdrawal times for poultry vaccines
Annexe V (Quebec Regulations for the sale of veterinary drugs)

Purpose:

Support the development and maintenance of high quality standards for veterinary drugs, pesticides, feed additives and natural health products.

Responsibilities:

Develop CAHI input on all ongoing Health Canada consultations relevant to CAHI members
Identify and track emerging issues in availability of veterinary drugs and pesticides
Support development of agendas for bilateral meetings with Health Canada (VDD, ROEB, PMRA)
Form limited term Ad-hoc Committees related to specific drug-related topics when and as needed

Purpose:

Support development, delivery and awareness of national stewardship programs and of the different provincial and federal regulatory obligations

Responsibilities:

Support development of national, industry-led programs for managing the end-of-life aspects of animal health products being used on the farm and in the home
Develop CAHI input on all ongoing stewardship and Extended Producer Responsibility program consultations, both federal and provincial, relevant to CAHI members
Gather input from CAHI members on emerging issues (e.g. PFAs) likely to impact Canadian companies
Work with outside experts (e.g. Cleanfarms, HPSA, consultants etc.) to develop best practices for stewardship of both unwanted active products and their packaging.
Work with Communications Committee to develop key messages for stakeholders on what the animal health industry is doing to protect the environment

Purpose:

Support the development and maintenance of high-quality standards for veterinary biologics.

Responsibilities:

Develop CAHI input on all ongoing CFIA biologics consultations relevant to CAHI members
Identify and track emerging issues in availability of veterinary biologics
Support the development of agendas for bilateral meetings with CFIA re biologics
Form limited term Ad-hoc Committees related to specific biologics topics when and as needed

Purpose:

Ensure that the CAHI Code of Marketing Practice remains current and has the flexibility to address changing marketing practices

Responsibilities:

Support regular review of CAHI Code and make recommendations with respect to need for updates
Identify topics for CAHI Code training initiatives, and support development of industry training content and delivery
Identify and track emerging issues in problematic advertising/marketing issues by gathering input from member companies, and make recommendations on strategies to address these
Form limited term Ad-hoc Committees related to specific marketing topics when and as needed

Purpose:

Provide expertise with respect to the use of communications tactics and appropriate performance measures for the development of generic (unbranded) high-quality communications tools and activities for CAHI and animal health companies

Responsibilities:

Work with CAHI Communications Manager to review and identify communication needs for the animal health industry
Liaise with and support work of other CAHI Committees with respect to communications needs: Membership Recruitment, Stewardship, Code of Marketing Practice
Support the development of member, stakeholder, and general public communications tools by CAHI staff
Action member-based marketing to encourage the use of CAHI’s public trust tools and activities by members

Purpose:

Support implementation of the CAHI Membership Marketing Strategy and Roadmap to grow the CAHI membership base

Responsibilities:

Develop workplan/strategies for recruiting new CAHI members
Identify prospective member targets
Gather input on value of CAHI membership from current members from different sectors of the animal health industry
Work with Communications Committee to develop content for member value proposition marketing materials
Include representation from different sectors of the animal health industry (full and associate members, livestock & companion animal, etc.)
Submit reports on recruitment initiatives and efforts to the Board on a regular basis

Purpose:

Support annual planning and sponsor recruitment activities for CAHI Annual Convention

Responsibilities:

Support new Convention sponsorship initiatives by identifying potential external sponsors from among service providers and suppliers to CAHI member companies
Gather contact information for potential sponsors and generate an annual sponsorship leads list by November 1st of each year
Solicit feedback from member companies and colleagues on timely topics and speakers for CAHI Conventions
